You can never be too careful when it comes to finding out about new employees who want to work for you.  If you are entrusting any type of responsibility to an employee that you have just met, it is important to look at their entire background.  Don’t underestimate people.  They can look good on paper, but once you investigate them, you will find out who they really are.

    This is why it is necessary to perform a criminal background check.  It doesn’t matter what type of business you operate.  Retail establishments, banks, and large corporations can always protect themselves with a criminal history check.  This process will let you know what current and future employees may be capable of when they work for you.  Some people have minor offences which may not affect their position, but others may have a darker past.

    Homeowners that hire help such as nannies or maids should be aware as well.  Checking references isn’t enough, because taking someone at their word is no longer a smart idea.  Finding a company to perform a criminal background check that is credible and thorough is important. 

    You may even want to have someone run a sex offender search to prevent future law suits if you have employees who work in client’s homes or properties without supervision.  One law suit can bankrupt an entire company and taking this kind of risk isn’t worth it.  Any criminal history check is a preventative measure that will help protect you in the long run.
